Mid-March land thoughts

  1. The land is still covered in snow.  "Snowpack" is a good word: one to four feet of white over everything.  At times the top is frozen crust.  Sometimes the snowpack is really ice, or mostly so.  Viz this stairway I chipped out of the stuff blocking our back door:

  2. Many woodstacks remain.  These are deeply gratifying, bulwarks against the rest of this winter, and firm anticipations of the next one (think: October).
  3. Ceredwyn has started growing seedlings indoors.  These are broccoli, warming in plastic containers under a lamp.  I protect them from the very interested cats.
  4. Temps remain in the 20-40 range.
  5. Spring is a theory.
