We've lost our chickens. It's a sad story: some predators stalked the enclosure at night. Our dog chased them off, but they returned in predawn to seize birds.
One key advantage they had: one enclosure door was broken by December storms. Critters were able to sneak in.
Another reminder of how skilled and persistent are predators, up here on the mountain.

Nature has sharp edges.
Red in tooth and claw (or beak), indeed. It's been a while since we lost an animal to a predator.
