Home work

This week our homestead is being ripped up.  That's literally true: a swath of torn-up earth, felled trees, hauled boulders encircles our house like a weird cross between medieval moat and WWI trenches.

The trenches and pits are dug as far down as twenty feet below the surface.

Soil layers and strata are exposed to air and light.
